AWARDS AND HONORS -2005-2006

CONGRATULATIONS!

-The 8th GRADE GIRLS VOLLEYBALL TEAM who reached the Elite 8 in the IESA Volleyball tournament.  Mike and Barb Crist are coaches.

 
THE QJHS WRESTLING TEAM and COACH GAIL OREBAUGH.  Six individual wrestlers qualified for the IESA State Tournament.  Tony Lantz finished 6th in the 155 lb. weight class.
 

SEAN TAYLOR named Quincy Herald Whig Area Coach of the Year and Illinois High School Basketball Coaches Association District 16 Coach of the Year.

 

-The Internal Communications Committee for their efforts to help improve communication to the community and to staff.

 
-PAT ARNOLD, Kindergarten  Teacher at Monroe School,awarded Pearson Learning Group’s Great Teachers GREAT KIDS AWARD
 

-CAROL FRERICKS -Irving School Principal  and Pre-K—6 Literacy Coordinator Named Illinois Reading Council’s “K-5 Illinois Reading Educator of the Year!”

- SUPERINTENDENT THOMAS LEAHY named Illinois Association of School Administrators 2006 Superintendent of the Year

- Board President TOM DICKERSON has been nominated  for the Thomas Lay Burroughs Award for the State’s Outstanding School Board President.

 
- JOSE VILLAFANE, Spanish teacher at QJHS.  His poem At the Grocery Store was published in the American Journal of Poetry, Volume 4 2005.
 

-QHS MUSIC STUDENTS AND STAFF for the excellent production of South Pacific.
 

- SUPERINTENDENT TOM LEAHY awarded Administrator of the Year  by the Alliance Library System for his support of library services in Quincy and the Alliance area.
 

- Congratulation to MAX MILLER AND JIM MCNEIL, for being awarded the “SPORTING A WINNING ATTITUDE” RECOGNITION, by the Illinois High School Association.  One of the goals of interscholastic competition is to teach important values while enriching the educational experience of the young men and women who participate.  Sportsmanship is certainly one of those important values.
