In November 2014, Quincy voters overwhelmingly approved an $89 million bond issue to build five new elementary schools and an expansion for Quincy High School. The five new elementary schools will house Kindergarten through fifth grades. The expansion of the High School provided the space necessary to accommodate the freshman class (presently housed at Quincy Junior High); as well as the construction of a tornado safe area for the school. Moving QPS freshman to QHS allowed the QPS sixth grade students to move to Quincy Junior High School. Work began in August 2015 on the expansion of Quincy High School and was opened for students in the fall of 2016.
