INDUCTION FOR NEW TEACHERS
Forty new teachers participated in the Induction for New Hires held July 30 and 31. Approximately two-thirds of the new hires are brand new to teaching, the rest have experience in other districts. The first day started with breakfast and meeting administrators and board members. Information was presented on personnel file requirements, certification, evaluation, payroll, and the automated substitute system.
The "New Teacher Induction training" is part of the QPS Teacher Mentor Project, a two-year Illinois State Approved Mentoring program. The group learned about district information, classroom management, meeting students' needs, and building information. Some also visited their buildings.
Marilyn Smith, Mentor Teacher Leader, led the two-day event. Various speakers provided information on Professional Learning Communities, Core Curriculum, Illinois Professional Teaching Standards and District Curriculum Guides. Those new to teaching will also have a Mentor to help and support them during their first year on the job.
The new hires are an excited, enthusiastic group ready to get started.
