 BLAST OFF THE MORNING AT
BERRIAN SCHOOL

At the November 16th Board meeting, students from Berrian School demonstrated their Blast Off the Morning ceremony which starts each day.  At 7:52 a.m. each morning, students take a seat in the auditorium.  A student sounds a large gong on the stage to indicate the beginning of the ceremony.   Different students selected each day march in waving flags and carrying  paper-flamed torches to the beat of rousing music. All the students and staff chant, “Good Morning, it’s great to be at Berrian,” led by Principal Jill Reis.  After singing the Celebrate song, the Pledge of Allegiance is recited.   Students then repeat the three rules at Berrian:  1) Always do your best, 2) Be safe as you learn and play, and 3) Be kind to others and to yourself.   Different days of the week have different themes.  Wednesday is Be Kind Wednesday.  Several role play situations were presented demonstrating how to be a peacekeeper and to be helpful and kind.   Mrs. Reis told the Board that the ceremony helps get the students excited about their day.  She said the students are anxious to get to school on time so they can be selected to carry the flags and torches.

New Maintenance Truck

The Board approved the purchase of a new maintenance truck from Hackett’s Auto Center at 36th and Maine.  Hackett’s submitted the lowest bid for a Chevrolet truck at $15,718.  The new truck will replace a 1991 Dodge truck.
