A virtual tour of Baldwin School by Baldwin Students

You are about to become a  student at Baldwin Intermediate School.  Baldwin is a great place to learn, but it will be a change and sometimes changes can be a little frightening when you don't know what is going to happen.  This page will tell you what will be happening at Baldwin Intermediate School next year.

Baldwin Intermediate School is divided into three elementary sections, called Baldwin North, Baldwin West, and Baldwin South.  Each section has a principal, secretary, fourth, fifth, and sixth grade teachers, and special staff to meet special educational needs.  Baldwin School also has a head principal and secretary.  In addition, Baldwin School offers talented and gifted classes for fourth, fifth, and sixth grade students.

Baldwin School has a library/resource center, a large playground area, and a large cafeteria that each section uses everyday for breakfast and lunch.

Most of your school time will be spent with your homeroom teacher, but you may go to a different classroom for a short period of time to receive instruction at your level.  When your entire class leaves your room for gym or music, a teacher will accompany the class to these different areas.  Physical education classes are held in our gym where the Blue Devil Boys play basketball or on the playground in good weather.

Your assigned section at Baldwin is still an elementary setting where you work, play, and eat together with the same students.  If you have special friends in other sections at Baldwin, you will still get to see them on the buses or in your neighborhood.

What Happen During the First Week of School?
• If you ride a bus, you will get off the bus on Circle Drive and go to the Cafeteria for breakfast or the Auditorium until 8:20 am when you are dismissed to go to your classroom.  Baldwin staff members are there to walk you to your classroom and help you meet your teacher and classmates.  During the first week of school, there will also be many PTA mothers to help you find your way to your classroom

• Also, during the first week of school, your teacher will be checking to see how much you already know about school subjects you will be taking.  These "checks" are like tests and are very important.  They will give your teacher an idea where to place you in different subjects.

• Sometime during the first few weeks of school, you may be assigned your own personal locker with locks.  Baldwin uses combination locks that are not hard to learn how to operate.  Your teacher will help you understand how your lock works.

Letters from 4th Graders
* Some fourth grade students have written some letters to you about Baldwin School.  We thought you might enjoy them

Dear 3rd Grader,

*Welcome to Baldwin School!  Baldwin has so many things your old school doesn't have.  For instance, we have art one day a week.  There are two art teachers, Mrs. O'Neal and Mr. O'Neal.  We get to do things like make sculptures in art.  I really like instrumental music.  You can play instruments like clarinet, the trumpet, and violin.  But, first you have to take a music test.  It's not that hard, though.  The teachers are absolutely great.  And they're always there for you, too.  We use the Blue Devil gym.  If you have gym at the end of the day, you see some of the basketball players.  And, one day, we saw the Blue Devil mascot practicing.  The library has many different books.  Like art books and biographies of people you've never even heard about.  It used to be twice its size!  And we have a field trip.  The 4th graders go to Springfield.  And the 5th and 6th graders go to St. Louis.  Baldwin School is great.   Hope you have fun!

Sincerely,
Loren

Dear 3rd Grader,

It may look big here, but it is not.  You can see good plays or be in a play!  In the middle of school is a big pathway called a mall.  The playground is wonderful.  It has basketball, three merry-go-rounds, a slide, soccer, football, and much more.  Right outside is a pond, it is near the North entrance.  You get to do art projects like paper mache, drawing, ornaments, and more.  If you have a problem ask a teacher.  You get to go on good field trips.  You will love it here.  And the library is great.

Sincerely,
Ben
