JANUARY NEWSLETTER

Ellington is a GREAT place to learn!

The PTA Board Members for the 2004-2005 School Year are:  President: Sharon Bearden, Vice President: Sara Heiden, Vice-President, Vice President: Susan Kim, Secretary: Lisa Dalke,  and Treasurer: Kelly Crossan. Please contact any of the board members with questions or comments.

PTA Meetings are scheduled every other month.  The dates of the meetings are as follows:  March 29, and May 3.  Please mark your calendars and plan to attend.

PTA Nominating Committee is being formed to identify individuals who are interested in volunteering to serve as board members for Ellington's PTA, for the 2005-2006 school year.  A slate of officers for next year will be presented at our March PTA meeting.  Please call Anne Cashman if you would like to make a nomination to the committee.

It's not to early to start planning for your child's education beyond high school.  Yes, college and vocational training are just around the corner!  Ellington PTA is planning an evening in March to learn about the many options available to us for investing in our children's future.  We are beginning to plan the presentation and invite any Ellington parents who wish to participate in the presentation to contact us.  We value the professional knowledge and experience of our Ellington parents.  Please call the office if you would like to participate.  Don't worry about the kids . . . we're planning a movie night, in the gym for students, while parents learn about higher education.

Mom's Day Out, at Vermont Street Methodist Church, is for children ages 6 weeks to 5 years.  Children can attend one or two mornings each week for consistent child care.  The daily fee is $10.00.  You can call 222-6586 or 223-6718 for more information.  This is a great solution to volunteer in your child's classroom or the library if you have younger children.

Ellington School is recycling ink cartridges, empty toner containers and cell phones.  If you have a place for a collection box at your office, please call the school office for assistance in the easy collection process.  We recently received a check for $425.00 that will be used towards supplies. LET'S KEEP RECYCLING!

Thank you for saving BoxTops$ for Education!!! Ellington PTA just received a check for $425 from the Fall Collection! What a great and easy way to raise money to support our school.  Keep saving because we will be collecting them again on March 15th.  We will again have a contest to see which classes collect the most.  Remember, each is worth  $.10.  Also, save your HyVee brand UPC/Barcodes.  They are each worth $.05.  We will collect the BoxTops/UPC's and return the baggie for you to continue to collect throughout the summer.  The more we collect, the more can we earn!

Birthday Book Club  is actively adding books to our library.  This is now it works. . .during the month of your child's birthday, you will receive a letter with info.  You can choose to donate either $5 or $10 (generally the cost of a paperback or hardcover book.)  After the donation, your child will select the book which is purchased for the Ellington Library and a bookplate with his/her name will be placed on the inside the cover. Your child will then get to choose a donated toy animal.  This animal is a gift for your child.  This is a generous way to support the library and for your child to be recognized for years to come.
