There is no school Thursday, November 11, in observance of Veteran's Day.

In celebration of American Education week we are encouraging students to invite a special person(s) to come to school for a brief visit.  Tour the building, view the Book Fair or visit the classroom to see what we have accomplished so far this year.  Please arrive no earlier than 2:30 on your scheduled day.  Be courteous of our neighbors when parking on Lindell.  You may also park in the ADM parking lot on 30th Street. We look forward to your visit and appreciate you taking the time to support education at Ellington School.

School pictures should be arriving soon.  Picture re-takes are scheduled for Tuesday, November 23.

The deadline for Reflections entries is Tuesday, November 16.  The theme is "A Different Kind of Hero."

Skating Party - Wednesday, November 24, 6:00-8:00PM at Scotties' Skateland.
No School - Thursday, November 25 and Friday, November 26, for Thanksgiving

It's hard to believe that the first quarter is over and we are well into our school year.  I believe that we are off to a great start and hope to continue this strong beginning.  I thought it might be interesting to recap a few of our accomplishments so far this year.  I was amazed as I reflected on what has happened at Ellington so far.

We have held several successful events in conjunction with PTA including Curriculum Night, a Soup Supper, our school fundraiser, and Family Read Night.  We also proudly boast a record number of PTA members.  If you have not joined, it's not too late!

We currently have a school wide promotion called "Kindness Counts" which we support through weekly announcements of acts of kindness committed by out students who are "caught being kind."  Students will be honored with stickers, pencils saying "Kindness Counts at Ellington School", a certificate and a picture with the principal.  Staff members are reinforcing this and taking a course called Love and Logic  which is a positive method of students discipline.

Through the hard work of staff and the PTA, we were awarded $1,224 in Instant Arts Dollars through the Quincy Society of Fine Arts.  This money is used to fund art activities for our students.  School assemblies with guest artists have also taken place.

We proudly participated in raising money for the American Heart Association in honor of Monroe School student, Anna Kammerer.  Students in Mrs. Zeidler's class raised the most money and had a great time dressing me up for the day.  We even made the WTAD news.

Lastly, you may have read about playground evaluation conducted by Kimi Yuchs.  We voluntarily had her look at our playground and all minor improvement have been made.  We want your child to be safe at all time.

I believe that we are having a great year!  Thank you for attending parent conference, remember you can schedule a meeting with your teacher at any time during the year.
