QAVTC,
Quincy Area Vocational Technical
Center, is a regional vocational
center that serves twelve
schools in Adams, Pike and
Hancock counties.
Courses are offered in eleven
programs serving the training
needs of business and industry
within the community. Students
are able to receive the
knowledge and skills that will
help them continue their
education in the field or to
gain entry level employment.
Courses are designed at the
"skill level", in most cases,
building upon what the students
have taken at their local school
district as Freshmen or
Sophomore students. Enrollment
at the Center is available to
Juniors and Seniors. The Staff
at the Center work closely with
the instructors at John Wood
Community College to insure that
students receive the knowledge
and skills necessary to continue
their education at JWCC, if they
so desire.
Students will receive classroom theory and hands-on
training to develop
knowledge and skills that will
help them make a decision about
their future. In several cases,
students may also participate in
work-related activities out in
the business and industry
community to reinforce the
training they are receiving at
the Center.
The Center also offers career
awareness and exploration
activities through the Career
Development within the Center.
Here students will be able to
get on the award wining career
software, "DISCOVER" by ACT, to
evaluate their career interest
and do college and technical
school search to continue their
education after graduation.
