I welcome
you to the Quincy Public School District
172 website. You will find that we are
committed to the success and well being
of our students and staff, as well as
our entire community. Our Central Office
Team continues to move forward with a
commitment to build trust and provide
service in order to ensure an optimal,
quality educational experience for each
individual student. The QPS School Board
provides support and guidance as they
operate in a mode of unity, trust and a
carefully planned direction. In the
spirit of excellence, we continue to
refine our four primary vision areas of
Student Achievement, Partnerships, Human
Resources and Financial Stability.
As we
experience continued stability in the
operational side of the district, we are
concentrating our collective energy,
time and resources on the academic,
physical, and social/emotional
achievement of our students. The entire
QPS instructional staff has embraced the
Professional Learning Community (PLC)
concept. In order to effectively meet
students’ needs within this framework,
our staff will have opportunities to
study, discuss and learn more about the
key concepts and understandings within
the PLC framework, will collaborate to
determine best practices for
implementation or refinement, will
begin the ongoing process of putting
critical information about student
learning at the forefront of every
decision that is made, and will
continually evaluate the impact of each
decision as it affects and impacts our
students. This plan of action includes
our collective efforts to:
1.
Provide a meaningful, viable and
guaranteed curriculum for each student
in each subject or class.
2.
Administer common assessments for each
student in each subject or class.
3.
Identify the level of student learning
on an individual basis.
4.
Provide interventions for those not
learning.
Our
district direction also includes the
Literacy Initiative, Science for Life, 7
Habits Schools, Project ALL (Access to
Literacy Learning), Kindness Counts and
Violence Free Berrian. These “hand in
glove” efforts allow us to improve the
school climate, coordinate instructional
efforts and enhance student learning.
I
personally thank you for visiting the
QPS website. Through facing and solving
difficult issues, we are excited about
the opportunities ahead. Our hope is
that as we move to the future, everyone
will be proud of the Quincy Public
School System.
Yours for
better schools,
Thomas F. Leahy
Superintendent, QPS 172
