Hardware
and Software Guidelines
Software and Internet Connectivity:
For network / internet
connectivity, a requisition may be
obtained from the building principal and
submitted to the Technology Office. Be
sure to budget the cost of training
and/or software along with the hardware
and internet connectivity.
Before purchasing any software,
contact the Technology Office to assure
that the software is compatible with
District Network standards. Prices for
hardware and software vary greatly so
be sure to check all prices with the
Technology Office before purchasing.
Copying and Installing Software:
The unauthorized duplication
of software may subject employees and/or
the district to both civil and criminal
penalties under the United States
Copyright Act. Employees may not give
standalone software to any other
employee or any software to
non-employees including parents,
contractors, students, or others.
QPS employees may use software
on local area networks or on multiple
machines only in accordance with
applicable license agreements. Copies
of original software programs may be
made for archival purposes. Only one
copy of the program, either the original
or the copy, may be used at any one
time.
Teachers are encouraged to try new
software in consultation with
supervisors and the Technology Office.
Since some software conflicts with the
network or the operating system,
software must be approved by the
Technology Office before it is
installed. Decisions regarding
software updates for labs must be made
by May 1 of the school year prior to
implementation.
Licensing and Registration of Software:
Have all software licenses delivered
to the Technology Office and retain a
copy with the equipment on location. If
the license is received on-site, please
copy and send the original to the
Technology Office or send a copy of the
invoice if no license is available.
Register software in the name of
QPS and the job title or
department / school in which it will be
used. Original manuals, tutorials, and
other user-oriented documentation should
be on file at the hardware location.
Virus Infection, Backup and Disaster
Recovery:
Technicians are responsible for backing
up the networks. Individual users of
hard drive and standalone software are
responsible for backing up their own
hard drives, data and software. Save
critical files to district servers since
servers will be backed up on a timely
basis.
Viruses are
commonplace; therefore, a procedure must
be in place at each location for
avoiding them. Virus checkers are
available to aid in this process. If a
virus should infect a network, a costly
cleanup procedure will be necessary.
Any additional
questions should be addressed to the
Technology Office at 224-3770 ext. 121.
