“Key Club” is a student-led organization that teaches young people about leadership while providing service to the local schools and community.
Key Club is the high school equivalent of the internationally recognized Kiwanis Club. Our local sponsoring group is the Noon Kiwanis Club.
Dues & Membership
Dues & membership for Key Club total $11.50. These fees are sent to the state and national level of Key Club and are not retained at the local club level. The preferred method of payment would be a check made out to “QHS KEY CLUB’ and then we write a check to Key Club International.
In order to officially claim club membership students are asked to complete a minimum of 10 service hours approved by the Key Club. Out of the 10 service hours they must be from at least 5 different sources, as opposed to volunteering in one place for 10 hours. Members are also expected to participate in some of the club sponsored activities in order to complete this requirement for club membership.
Students who successfully complete the required volunteer hours receive a Key Club Membership Card identifying them as official Key Club members. This also entitles students to claim this club as an activity on their official high school transcript. The Club Advisor approves each claim of club membership before they are actually added to the transcript.
Club Meetings
Club meetings are held twice monthly, typically on the 1st and 3rd Thursday of each month. We meet in Mr. McKinley’s room, B214 from 2:40-3:30. Occasionally we must adjust these dates if there are conflicts with vacations or other school activities.
Unfortunately we can not depend on daily announcements to inform club members of our activities and announcements. Some teachers fail to post daily bulletins and we are not allowed to make announcements over the intercom. We are going to rely on a system of text messaging and email from club officers to inform students of necessary information. If that is not possible students should check either of our Key Club Message Boards: one is posted outside of Mr. McKinley’s room (B214) and the other is our Key Club bulletin Board in the Commons.
Club Activities
Each year Club Officers will develop a list of prioritized QHS Key Club Activities for the year with input from all the club members. The focus of our activities will primarily be for volunteering and servicing needs within local homes, schools, and our community. We do, however. also contribute to global causes. Some are sponsored by Key Club International and others are often in the form of disaster relief donations to current world events.
In the past many of the activities that we have done have included: Fall Harvest donations, playing Bingo at the Illinois Veterans Home (we supply prizes and refreshments), Christmas bell ringing for the Salvation Army, Good News Campaign (toy donations and buying a large appliance for those in need), Valentine’s Day activity at the Good Samaritan Home, bake sales for current disaster relief projects, Polar Plunge activity, tutoring services at Baldwin school, babysitting services for parents at Back-to-School night at some primary schools.
In order to fund the projects that we decide to sponsor and support we as a group have to do some fund raising efforts so that we can pay for these activities. In the past we have asked club members to sell boxes of candy for which we receive 50% profit. Club members receive 1 service hour of volunteering for each box sold.
We also are a social club. At the end of each meeting we typically will provide refreshments for members at no cost. We like pizza, donuts, cookies etc. so come enjoy other Key Club members and meet new people! New members are always welcome!
