The chart below shows the average number of students per teacher for Quincy Public Schools compared to the average in the state of Illinois (source: Illinois State Report Card). Elementary school averages and High School averages are reported separately. The average number of students per teacher is calculated using the fall enrollment for the school year divided by the number of full-time equivalent (FTE) teachers in the district. Teachers classified as special education teachers are not included. Research indicates that children in lower grades show the potential for higher achievement scores when they are in smaller classes. Many factors contribute to student achievement, and class size is only one part of this bigger picture. Special education classes are not included in this calculation.
